Best Tamayuz bidding for a hat trick

Scott Dixon has been enjoying a good time of things recently, particularly with his three year old gelding Best Tamayuz, who has won on both of the last two Tuesdays at the course, both very impressively. A fortnight ago, Best Tamayuz won a ‘hands and heels’ contest over seven furlongs to provide young Russell Harris with his first winner as an apprentice rider before returning last Tuesday, this time partnered by Luke Morris and down to six furlongs, winning easily once again.

He runs again over six furlongs for his hat-trick attempt, and is against thirteen other rivals in the finale on the card at 3.40, including Musical Molly, Borough Boy and Shaun Harris’s veteran sprinter Fathom Five.

The 3.10 is the classiest race on the card, a twelve furlong handicap which features one of only two runners on the card for trainer Mick Appleby, who had a double last week and is represented here by Luv U Whatever, ridden by Alistair Rawlinson. He has been badly out of form recently but has a good record here at Southwell over shorter distances. The opposition to the Danethorpe trained runner comes from recent course and distance winner Reach The Beach, top weight and easy Wolverhampton winner last time out Street Artist and Yul Finegold, a rare runner at the course for his trainer George Baker.

There is a chance for the amateur riders to shine in the opening two races of the card, with two divisions of a mile handicap in which riders such as Serena Brotherton and Simon Walker, who have been so prolific in such events over the years come up against the likes of Aiden Blakemore who has only ridden one winner so far and Katie Margarson, daughter of trainer George, who so far has ridden four winners, two of which have been for her father.

David Simcock will be sending two runners from his Newmarket base, with Whispering Star trying to break the maiden after a string of four second place finishes before Padlock lines up in the novice stakes at 1.40. Andrew Balding is also represented, with the main challenger to Whispering Star in the shape of Wu Zetian and also Darting in the later mile and a half maiden.

The first race tomorrow is off at 12.10pm, for further information, visit www.southwell-racecourse.co.uk
