Cousin Khee takes the feature race on final evening meeting of 2014

A good crowd gathered last Wednesday for the final summer music evening of 2014, and the feature race of the night was taken by Cousin Khee for trainer Hughie Morrison, who continues to have a fantastic strike rate with his runners on the Fibresand, and ridden by Danny Tudhope, who had a double on the card. Cousin Khee had rather lost his way after reaching a mark of 87, but as his handicap mark dropped, he had certainly started becoming a little bit more competitive in his races, particularly when second at Wolverhampton on his previous start. There was a slight doubt about whether this son of Sakhee would handle the Fibresand surface but he took to it like a duck to water, winning by a very comfortable four and a half lengths.

Blazeofenchantment and Pretty Bubbles were both easy winners of their respective handicap races, with the former ridden by Jacob Butterfield for trainer John Wainwright, and the latter ridden by Paddy Aspell  completing a double for trainer John Jenkins. Jenkins had earlier struck with Meebo, who finally broke her maiden on the 22nd time of asking in the hands of apprentice rider Jenny Powell, who was having her first winner as a 5lb claimer.

The other two maidens on the card went to Rita’s Boy for Middleham Park Racing, Karl Burke and jockey Danny Tudhope plus Nur Jahan was a winner for trainer David Lanigan and jockey Stevie Donohoe, who was having his first ride for the trainer.

The final race on the card went to Danzoe who was ridden by Eoin Walsh, who has been receiving jockey coaching from former top jockey John Reid and he certainly had to be strong to lift this gelding home in front for his eleventh career win.

A day later, AP McCoy recorded his fastest ever century of winners in a season when Arabic History won at Newton Abbot, and there is a very strong chance that the nineteen times champion will be riding at our next three meetings, with the first of them coming up on Wednesday 3 September. If you attend any of the next three meetings, you will receive a free ticket to the first All-Weather Championship meeting in November.
